Thanks in part to some great weather, but mostly community support, the annual Diva-for-a-Day Golf tournament was a big success on Friday.

The event which was held at Kachur’s Golf Course represents the biggest fundraiser of the year for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Prince Albert. Executive Director Natasha Thompson is grateful for the continued support.

“It’s very important to us to allow us to keep doing the work we do in the community, helping young people have mentors,” she said.

This year marked the event’s 14th anniversary and following a caddy auction/ reception Thursday night, nine teams competed in Friday’s four-person best ball tournament. Each hole also came with its own additional fun challenge or fresh beverage. Thompson acknowledged it can be difficult keeping an event running this long.

“We always try to keep it a little fresh and exciting,” she said, while also noting there’s a number of teams who return year after year.

While this year’s total was still being tabulated, the goal was to raise $20,000. Thompson explained the money gets spent on recruiting, training and supporting volunteer mentors, who get matched up with youth facing adversity.

“We have to have our staff overseeing these matches. We have a social worker on staff and basically providing that support for the volunteers,” Thompson said.

Planning for next year’s 15th anniversary has already started and promising the event to be even bigger and better, Thompson explained the caddy auction and golf event will all happen on the same day.

The event has been scheduled for June 7, 2024.
