Traffic will be disrupted near bridge starting this week
A city project to replace the century-old cast iron watermain near the EA Rawlinson Centre will disrupt access to the Diefenbaker Bridge, starting this week.
Northbound traffic on the bridge will see some disruptions as city crews work to install a new water and sewer main and then repave the roadway, as will drivers trying to get to the EA Rawlinson Centre.
The city is calling the project ‘extensive’ and said it was brought on by a collapse of the main in 2022 which caused a sinkhole at the intersection of 12th Street East and Second Avenue.
The collapse was the result of heavy rainfall and the main was fixed with a temporary plug. The new water and sewer line will be larger than the previous cast iron one.
