The U11 Prince Albert Aces didn’t let the nerves get to them being the host team during a memorial softball tournament.

They ended up beating the Muenster A’s 17-0 in the gold medal game at the Shaye Amundson Memorial Tournament.

The event is named after the 18-year-old former Prince Albert Aces player who was killed in a car accident back in 2016.

“It’s a pretty special thing, especially when you can win it at home,” said Amy Fiddler, the team’s head coach.

The girls won all five of their games which included three in the round-robin, the semifinals, and eventually the final game.

This continues the success they’ve been having of late as they previously won tournaments in Regina and Leduc while coming second at a competition in Warman.

Fiddler explained this is the most dominant team she’s ever gotten the chance to be a part of.

“This is an amazing group of girls. We play small ball, lots of bunts, and that’s making a difference. We also have some very strong pitchers this year,” she said.

It’s safe to say fans will be seeing these players at the Shaye Amundson Tournament for many more years. The event also features U13, U15, and U17 divisions.

“If these girls stick with it, there’s a ton of talent here,” added Fiddler.

Meanwhile, the Prince Albert Aces had four other teams compete but the U11 team was the only one to win it all.

In the U13 division, the Regina Fighting Saints beat the Meadow Lake Sox in the finals. In the U15 division, the Twin City Angels won 6-2 over the Melfort Spirit to take home the top prize. In the U17 division, the Moose Jaw Ice shut out the Saskatoon Raiders 7-0 to take home the championship.
