City launches design contest to capture the pride of P.A.

Are you an artist that wants to be part of the next great design for Prince Albert? If so, the city is looking for you.

On Thursday, the City of Prince Albert put out a call to local artists and graphic designers to create a design to be used for future merchandise depicting the best of P.A.

A similar contest was held in 2018, with just one artist, Gabrielle Giroux from Encore Graphics, commissioned to create several designs that went to a public vote.

“Since that time, we’ve had different designs used. One, in particular, has been extremely popular, and that’s the PA/SK,“ said P.A. Arts and Culture Coordinator Judy MacLeod Campbell.

That design was the winning graphic from 2018 and merchandise depicting that moniker has been in high demand for Tourism Prince Albert.

While the contest has only just launched, MacLeod Campbell said there has already been some interest from local artists.

“We’ve had a few calls lately that have received a lot of interest,” she said. “We have a lot of local artists and graphic designers, so it’s an opportunity for them.”

As to why they are holding this contest again, MacLeod Campbell said the city wants to encapsulate the positives about the city and the surrounding beauty of the lakes and forests, something that captures the pride of Prince Albert.

“We’re hoping that our local artists and graphic designers will come up with some really cool images that just speak to the positive things,” she said. “We’re hoping that it does evoke that pride and generate excitement.”

Entries will be accepted until July 10th when a selection committee will choose the top four designs and put them to a social media poll on July 23rd.
