No child luring occurred: Warman RCMP

Despite an email from the local school division warning of an alleged child luring incident in Warman, the city’s RCMP division says it didn’t happen.

On Monday afternoon, the Prairie Spirit School Division sent an email to parents and guardians saying a man approached a student at a Warman bus stop, claiming he had been sent by the student’s parents to pick them up. The school division said the student ran away to safety and reported the incident.

On Wednesday, the Warman RCMP detachment said its investigation has determined that no child luring occurred.

Police said they were notified Monday afternoon about a potential incident on Peters Street.

“(Officers) conducted extensive patrols and continued a priority investigation and have now concluded, based on evidence collected, that no luring incident occurred,” the Warman RCMP said in a statement.

“Warman RCMP is releasing this information to assure the community that no risk was identified after fulsome investigation.”

Police reminded parents of the importance of discussing safety with their children.

While the alleged incident Monday was found not to have occurred, details were similar to another case in Warman dating back to February. In that case, a girl was allegedly approached by a strange man who tried to convince her to get into his truck.

In that case, police released a composite sketch of the suspect and a detailed description of the truck.
