Federal government helps with asset management funding for 14 communities

May 23, 2023 | 11:40 AM

A federal investment of more than $560,000 will be given to 14 Saskatchewan communities, to assist infrastructure management.

Asset management is to help reduce risks so municipalities can provide dependable and affordable services to their residents. The management includes roads, arenas, bridges, drinking water and wastewater systems.

“Our government supports municipalities across Canada so they can manage their infrastructure as efficiently as possible. These investments will help municipalities in Saskatchewan get the training and the resources that will enable them to innovate and improve the lives of their residents,” Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities Dominic LeBlanc said.

Funding will help provide data-driven decision-making on key infrastructure in the communities. Among the recipients:

The Rural Municipality of Laird No. 404 will receive $50,000 to create an asset management plan for its equipment in the community. The plan will review the equipment, develop an expenditure review and analyze shortfalls.

The Rural Municipality of Meadow Lake No. 588 will receive $50,000 to review its road network and culverts and to collect geo-referenced linear information for roughly 616 kilometres of road segments.

The Rural Municipality of Frenchman Butte No. 501 will receive $18,000 to create a comprehensive asset management plan and update the existing plan based on current data. The R.M. will develop asset management training and develop a 10-year capital plan based on its existing five-year plan.

The Village of Loon Lake will receive $44,970 for an asset management plan. The R.M. of Loon Lake will also receive $23,315.

The Village of Pierceland will receive $49,950 toward an asset management plan for its roads and buildings.
