The woman charged after a tense situation last January in Prince Albert’s West Flat is maintaining her innocence.

Angela Fay Ahenakew, 26, was not present when her matters were discussed Tuesday afternoon at Prince Albert Provincial Court. On her behalf, Ahenakew’s lawyer entered not-guilty pleas to nearly a dozen charges and confirmed a trial date had been set for Sept. 26.

The case dates back to Jan. 2, when police were called to a home on 18th St. W.

It’s alleged that prior to going to the home, Ahenakew stole a vehicle from a house on MacArthur Drive. During the ensuing standoff with police, a total of 11 people were evacuated from the home and Ahenakew allegedly barricaded herself inside with a gun.

She gave up peacefully after several hours.

Officers later recovered a rifle and ammunition from inside the home. No one was injured in the incident Along with the stolen vehicle, a stolen wallet, credit cards, a firearm and ammunition were also recovered.

Days after making her first court appearance, Ahenakew was released on bail and ordered to abide by a number of conditions that included a curfew, living at an approved residence, abstaining from drugs or alcohol, and reporting to a probation officer.

However, roughly four days later, Ahenakew breached her conditions by going to an establishment where alcohol is served.

Then following a second release from custody, Ahenakew failed to show up for her February court date and another bench warrant was issued. She was found and arrested roughly two months later.
