P.A. return after a successful Model UN in Winnipeg

Several students from Ecole St. Mary have returned from Winnipeg after taking part in a Model UN.

The school sent three delegations, each consisting of two students to the event with one of those teams receiving an honourable mention.

“Like the real UN, they are meeting together and discussing issues,” said Remi Joncas with Ecole St. Mary. “Each delegate must research their own country, the country they were assigned.”

The students who took part said they were excited to be involved and shared with paNOW what they enjoyed the most.

“The fact that we could take extracurricular activity to somewhere outside of P.A., I feel we were quite fortunate for the opportunity to travel to a different province to do something that we enjoy,” said one student.

“I really liked meeting new people. I think it’s an experience that allows people to meet people our own age that also share similar interest in politics,” said another.

Some students who took part in the Model UN said it will go a long way toward their post-secondary schooling now that their high school years are wrapping up.

“Those of us who are going on to university, there are potentially programs in university,” said one student. “Now that we have a solid base of knowing everything, I think we can go in with an advantage to the other students being that we had the experiences that were able to take in this year.”

Joncas said there is a Model UN in Prince Albert and hopes to invite more cities to join the group next spring.
