Over $100k raised during last fundraiser for P.A.’s Rose Garden Hospice

Prince Albert’s Rose Garden Hospice will be opening in the coming months and held one last fundraiser for much-needed medical equipment.

The fundraiser, known as the Rose Garden Hospice Radio Day, on Friday, had over $100,000 donated.

Around $53,000 was raised by community members, while Malcolm Jenkins and Gord and Barb Broda each donated $25,000.

“We’re so blessed with every penny people have given us,” said Marina Mitchell, a hospice committee member.

During the fundraiser, people were allowed to visit the hospice and see everything that’s been built so far. Mitchell said nearly everyone had the same reaction.

“Everybody just kept saying it feels like home…it’s beautiful, open, and airy.”

Purchasing the equipment was the second last hurdle the hospice needed to get over before officially opening.

The last thing that needs to be done is to install all the interior doors which are scheduled to arrive sometime in July. This means the hospice will officially welcome its first residents in July or early August.

“It’s finally starting to sink in,” said Mitchell.

The hospice will feature 10 beds along with lounge areas and a kitchen for families to use. It will also have office spaces for executives and volunteers and a fully functioning staff room.

It will also house a garage to accompany ambulances and hearses.
