Raiders stick with Sioux Falls for pair of U.S. draft picks
In the last two years, more and more prospects from the United States draft have been making their way to play in the WHL. The Prince Albert Raiders hope they’ve found two more who can one day help the team build back toward contention.
The Raiders made two selections in the U.S. Priority Selection today, one at fifth overall and another at 27th. As it turned out, they didn’t need to move very far geographically from one pick to the other.
At fifth overall, the Raiders selected Sioux Falls Power skater Liam Hamre. The 6-foot-3 forward, who’s also spent some time on defense in his career, led the Power in goals and points in 2022-23, amassing 49 points in 51 games.
For their second pick, 27th overall, the Raiders stuck with Sioux Falls to select forward Caden Dionne. Dionne played fewer games than Hamre with 40 but finished with 24 goals and 41 points. In fact, the 5-foot-9 forward was the only player on his team to finish above a point-per-game.
