P.A. police arrest man wanted for warrant, locate loaded shotgun

Editor’s note: This story was updated Tuesday night to reflect the fact Budd is awaiting trial for the murder of Alex Whitehead.

Police have arrested a 22-year-old man with an outstanding warrant, which also led to the seizure of a loaded sawed-off shotgun.

Members of the Prince Albert Police Service’s Crime Reduction Team located the man on Apr. 5 near 9^th Avenue and 15^th Street West. He was wanted for breaching court-ordered conditions.

After a short foot pursuit, officers took the man into custody.

The loaded firearm was found nearby.

As a result, Richard Budd, from Prince Albert, faces several firearms related charges. He was also charged with resisting a peace officer in relation to the investigation.

In April, 2022, Budd was charged with the murder of Alex Whitehead. After initially been granted bail last January, Budd has breached his conditions twice by failing to appear on the next scheduled court day.

Prior to his arrest on April 5, his last scheduled court date had been March 23.

Budd’s next scheduled court date is April 12.
