Death at Pine Grove

Inquest into death of Lloydminster woman at Pine Grove set for May

Apr 6, 2023 | 1:15 PM

A mandatory inquest into the death of an inmate at Pine Grove in 2020 has been set for the second weekend in May.

Elaine Behm was found unresponsive in her cell on Oct. 1, 2020.

Despite lifesaving measures by PGCC staff and EMS, Behm could not be resuscitated and was pronounced dead.

Behm was awaiting court hearings on a second-degree murder charge in connection with the death of her husband, Darren Behm.

The inquest will start on May 8 at the Coronet Hotel, and could last as long as May 12. Coroner Robert Kennedy will preside at the inquest.

The purpose of an inquest is to establish who died, when and where that person died and the medical cause and manner of death. The coroner’s jury may make recommendations to prevent similar deaths.

Inquests into deaths of people in custody are required by law.
