Eight-year-old deceased after being hit by school bus

An eight-year-old boy from Red Earth Cree Nation has died after being struck by a school bus he had just gotten out of.

Carrot River RCMP said that Wednesday at about 12:25 p.m., they were called about the incident.

They determined that the child had been dropped off and then began walking in the same direction as the bus was travelling before being struck.

Police and EMS provided first aid but the boy was declared deceased at the scene.

“His family has been notified and our thoughts are with them during this difficult time. Victim Services have been made available to them and others at the scene,” said the RCMP in a news release.

The bus driver remained at the scene and the occupants of the bus were not hurt. No charges have been laid and police continue to investigate.
