Inmates light fire in PACC cell

Prince Albert fire fighters were called out to the Correctional Centre late on Monday after two inmates lit a fire in their cell.

PAFD was called about 9:00 p.m. on April 3 to what was described as a “small blaze” in a cell.

Correctional Centre staff had already eliminated the blaze with a portable extinguisher and prevented any major damage.

According to the provincial Ministry of Justice, the incident was over by 9:30 p.m.

“The affected unit was subsequently ventilated, and medical staff conducted medical checks on all inmates in the unit,” said the Ministry in a statement emailed to paNOW. “Inmates are not allowed to have matches or lighters.”
