ICE win 4-1, Raiders officially eliminated from playoff contention

Mar 18, 2023 | 9:50 PM

WINNIPEG, MB – The Prince Albert Raiders will not be going to the playoffs this season.

With their 4-1 loss to the Winnipeg ICE tonight along with the Calgary Hitmen’s 2-0 victory over the Medicine Hat Tigers, this boosts Calgary’s point total to 64 in the standings while PA has 57 points with just three games remaining on the schedule, meaning its now mathematically impossible for the Raiders to make the postseason.

The loss comes 24 hours after downing the Brandon Wheat Kings 4-3 to kickoff the three-in-three.

Carter Anderson had the lone goal for Prince Albert in the contest while Landon Kosior collected the lone assist.

Zack Ostapchuk, Evan Friesen, Ben Zloty, and Connor McClennon were the goal getters for the ICE while Ostapchuk and McClennon also tallied assists. Matthew Savoie had three assists and Graham Sward, Ty Nash, and Jonas Woo each had one.

Tikhon Chaika made 23 stops for PA where they fall to 27-35-3-0 on the campaign.

Daniel Hauser was between the pipes for Winnipeg and stopped 19 to help improve his team to 54-9-1-0 on the year.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

Zeros remained up on the scoreboard until midway through the second when Winnipeg broke the ice. Savoie got the puck in tight before dumping the puck off to Ostapchuk who scored his 27th of the season to put the ICE out in front.

This opened the floodgates in the third for Winnipeg as Friesen, Zloty, and McClennon would go on to score to make it 4-0 for the ICE. The Raiders did manage to avoid the shutout however with Anderson lighting the lamp late in the game. But it was too little to late as the Green and Gold fall 4-1.

Prince Albert wraps up this three-in-three weekend tomorrow afternoon in a rematch against the ICE at 4:05pm CST. (5:05pm CDT)
