Charge upgraded in Custer murder case

Mar 17, 2023 | 5:29 PM

One of the men charged in the death of Wesley Custer, is facing a new charge of first-degree murder.

Evan Ledoux had initially been charged with manslaughter, and is currently awaiting a preliminary inquiry hearing.

The hearing, which will help determine if the Crown’s evidence is strong enough to commit the case for trial, had one time been set for April 24.

However, when Ledoux’s matters were spoken to on Friday at Prince Albert Provincial Court, his lawyer suggested the hearing may not happen and that a plea may be in the works.

Wesley Custer was 20 years old when he was dropped off at the Shellbrook Hospital on Aug. 21, 2020, with serious injuries. He died shortly after.

Police have not revealed what the motive may have been for Custer’s death, but family members previously told paNOW it was gang-related.

A total of six people have now been charged in the case.

Tyson Lachance, charged with second degree murder, will have a preliminary inquiry hearing on April 17.

Curtis Ledoux, charged with accessory after the fact to murder, has a hearing date on May 9.

Brian Dreaver, Kyle Standing, and Matthew Whitstone have recently been arrested and pending court dates. Each have been charged with first degree murder.
