Saskatchewan police respond to Edmonton officer deaths

Local police and those from further afield are responding to the deaths of two fellow officers in Edmonton Thursday morning.

Prince Albert Police Chief Jonathan Bergen said the loss of others in uniform is felt by all.

“There are no words to describe the anguish that follows this level of violence and nothing can be said to ease the sorrow that families and our police members are feeling,” he said.

PAPS has lowered their flags to half-mast to honour Constables Travis Jordan and Brett Ryan, killed while responding to a domestic dispute call in Edmonton Thursday morning.

Neither officer had time to pull their weapons before being shot and the killer then turned the gun on himself.

“The loss of police colleagues in such a senseless and horrific way affects officers across our country and all of us with the Prince Albert Police Service are deeply impacted by this tragic incident,” said Bergen.

Saskatchewan RCMP also said they are mourning with the EPS, extending their sympathies to department and their families.

Sask. RCMP’s sympathy extended to EPS.

Saskatoon Police issued a statement as well on social media.

SPS posted this on social media.

“Our minds and hearts are with the Edmonton Police Services in mourning the loss of Constables Travis Jordan and Brett Ryan; 8.5 and 5.5-year members who were senselessly killed early this morning,” said SPS on its Facebook page.

Regina Police said they are “shaken and saddened by the tragic deaths” and offered support to EPS.

Regina Police are mourning with Edmonton today.
