Conservations officers are asking the public for help after a deer was killed in the Resort Village of Manitou Beach.

On Mar. 10, a mule deer was found dead on a trail that leads to Wellington Park with a field tip arrow sticking out of its body.

It’s believed the animal had been dead for a while with officers estimating it was most likely shot and killed sometime in February.

Chris Maier, Acting Inspector for the Saskatoon Compliance Area, told northeastNOW it wasn’t an ethical shot that killed the deer.

“The animal would have suffered, and it wasn’t really a humane way of deterring the animal.”

Maier explained it’s common for deer to wander into communities like Manitou Beach when the snow is heavy. They’re usually looking to gather food or find shelter near buildings giving off some warmth.

“It’s a strong possibility that this animal was killed by somebody that was frustrated with the animal being in the community,” Maier said.
