Several Prince Albert skiers have come back from their journey to Table Mountain, bringing treasure along with them.

That treasure came in the form of 17 medals won at the Flatland Freestyle Club competition, six gold, six silver, and five bronze.

What made the feat outstanding was that just 10 members of the Prince Albert Ski League attended the competition which featured nearly 50 skiers.

“To send 10 athletes out of those 49 and to come home with 17 medals is a pretty good weekend,” said club president Amanda Hounjet.

It was a busy but fulfilling weekend for the athletes with a full day of training on Friday followed by a training day on Friday, followed by the mogul competition on Saturday and the Slopestyle competition on Sunday.

Hounjet added that winning a medal was a huge confidence booster for the skiers as they competed against dozens of athletes from different clubs. Those clubs included Optimist Freestyle from Saskatoon, Flatlands Freestyle from Table Mountain and a club from Asessippi, Manitoba.

“The kids enjoyed themselves and they’re pumped to build on those ski lessons,” Hounjet said. ”They’re already talking about their next competition and where they are going to go.”’
