PA Panthers set to host 2023 Canadian Tire Cricket Cup this weekend

Mar 10, 2023 | 2:00 PM

The Alfred Jenkins Field House will be buzzing on Saturday as Prince Albert Panthers are set to host the 2023 Canadian Tire Cricket Cup.

A look at the schedule for the 2023 Canadian Tire Cricket Cup.

The tournament will be the largest that the club has hosted as seven teams are registered to compete with four teams coming from Saskatoon and three hailing from P.A.

President of the Prince Albert Cricket Association Mohib Mohammed told paNOW that the tournament will also see the debut of a new cricket team in the province.

“The team that will be the newest addition to the Prince Albert Cricket Association is the team, Sask Expats,” he said. “However, since they’re not a part of the P.A. Cricket Association just yet, I’m considering them as a team from outside P.A. for now.”

Prince Albert will have two official teams in the tournament with both the Panthers and Huskies set to battle it out. Other teams in the games include the Mavericks and the Saskatoon Shahsawars, Tigers, and Raptors.

Mohammed expressed excitement for the tournament where he said that he’s looking forward to some great competition this weekend. He added that all the teams are pretty evenly matched and that the PA squads have a good chance at winning it all.

“No team in this tournament is either above or below the other teams,” he explained. “Every team has the same chance of winning the trophy as the other teams.”

The tournament is set to kick off at 9 a.m. on Saturday with the P.A. Panthers set to face off with the Sask Expats in the opening game. The championship match is slated for 6 p.m. the same day with the trophy presentation happening at 7:45 p.m.
