‘He was our difference maker’: paNOW co-creator passes away

Mar 10, 2023 | 4:58 PM

One of the founding members of paNOW has passed away.

Robin Jones died peacefully at Kelowna General Hospital on Mar. 2 surrounded by his family and closest friends.

Back in 2010, he helped design and launch paNOW with some calling him the site’s architect.

“Robin came to us from one of the most successful news portals in Western Canada, Castanet,” said Marlene Stene, paNOW’s Sales Manager. “Robin was there to help us newbies navigate the new world of online news and display advertising. He was caring, fun and professional and always had a positive approach to all he did.”

Despite only living in Prince Albert for a short time, Pattison Media’s General Manager Karl Johnston said Jones left a lasting impression.

“Robin was so excited to take all that he learned at Castanet and use it to create something he was truly the father of. He led a talented team that created Saskatchewan’s most successful local news portal which has since spawned others in Saskatchewan and across Western Canada for Pattison Media. Robin was our difference maker, and he was also one great guy to work with.”

Johnston also wants his family to know just how much people loved him in Saskatchewan.

“I want you to know that he made such a big difference for us and in our lives by coming to the prairies for those few years.”

His funeral is scheduled for this Saturday at St. Charles Garnier Parish in Kelowna. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking people to instead donate to Kelowna’s Immaculata Regional High School.
