Future of Dave G. Steuart up for debate at P.A. council’s meeting

Mar 6, 2023 | 8:00 AM

Prince Albert’s council meets Monday where they’re expected to decide on the future of two arenas.

The city’s administration is recommending that Dave G. Steuart Arena no longer be used for hockey and instead be considered for other uses. At this time, there are no plans for what the facility will be used on.

As for the Kinsmen Arena, it’s being recommended that it continue to accommodate minor hockey and private rental demand from September to March. Also starting in April, the arena would be available for lacrosse players.

Also up for discussion is the possibility of setting up a yellow flashing pedestrian signal at the intersection of 1st Avenue East and 8th Street East. This was a motion previously brought forward by Mayor Greg Dionne.

The city of P.A. has already six letters of support from residents asking for flashing signal lights to be set up.

Council will also discuss finding a new tourism coordinator. This is a new position that will be tasked with supervising, scheduling, and managing the performance of employees carrying out tourism-related programs, coordinating the scheduling of events and programs, negotiating sponsorship proposals, and more.

Also, up for discussion is funding for the 2023 Senator’s Cup and funding for a new Community Centre Playground and Spray Park.

Council’s meeting is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
