A teenage boy, charged with second degree murder, has entered a plea of not guilty and opted to be tried by judge alone at Court of King’s Bench.

That was the outcome of a short hearing Friday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court.

The youth, who was 15 at the time of his arrest last November, appeared by video. As per the youth criminal justice act, he cannot be named.

Barry Pruden, 47, died on May 28.

On the day of his death, Pruden and his daughter had been out riding their bikes, and while stopped in the riverbank area, were confronted by a group of strangers. Pruden took a stand against the group, allowing his daughter to run for help.

When police arrived, Pruden was found lying on the ground, wearing only a t-shirt, pants, and shoes. Someone had taken his jacket, bunnyhug, and hat

Suffering a number of serious injuries, Pruden later died at Victoria Hospital.

The youth’s matters were adjourned to March 17. No trial dates have been set as of yet.

A second youth charged in the case, has a trial date scheduled for April 10.
