ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?!!

P.A. Minor Football springs into new season

Mar 1, 2023 | 1:00 PM

It’s time to lace up the cleats and get those shoulder pads ready for spring football in Prince Albert.

Registration has opened for the Prince Albert Minor Football Association which is entering another year in the community.

“We’re encouraging anybody interested in our programs to register online,” said Taras Kachkowski with the organization.

Aside from players, Kachkowski said the PAMF is also on the lookout for volunteers— especially coaches.

“There’s always a little bit of turnover,” he said. “Lots of dads follow their lids through the program and coach along with them. We do have a stable core of coaches but more hands make lighter work so we’re always looking for more people to step forward.”

Kachkowski is hoping for those who have been through the KFL or the high school ranks can come to coach but added that experience is recommended but not required.

All new coaches will have to go through a Football Canada safe contact course provided by the PAMF.

The River Riders program is hoping to capitalize on a successful fall campaign that saw the Bantam team win the Kinsmen Football League (KFL) championship.

Above all the hype for spring football, Kachkowski said he is amazed at how much the organization has grown since starting as a flag football team all those years ago.

“Over the years, we’ve expanded to several spring and fall programs,” he said, adding the biggest benefactors of their programs are the high schools.

“The quality of players have certainly improved and they’ve become more competitive in their respective leagues.”
