WINTER FESTIVAL

All eyes on 2024 as 59th P.A. Winter Festival wraps up

Feb 28, 2023 | 4:00 PM

It was another great show of support and fun at the 59th Annual Prince Albert Winter Festival earlier this month.

Despite bone-chilling weather, the events went off without a hitch and as President Bev Erickson explains, more people seemed to come out to the shows.

“I feel that the attendance was up last year for the indoor events and everyone seemed to really enjoy the shows,” she said.

While exact numbers have not been confirmed yet, Vice-President Trina Joseph said they had a great turnout for the indoor shows and concerts.

“We had really good numbers at the shows, we had a really good turnout for all of them,” she said.

Joseph and Erickson said the only major obstacle they had was the weather, as the outdoor events were subject to bitter-cold temperatures, which kept many spectators away. Regardless, the King and Queen Trapper Events, the Fireworks and the Dog Sled Races went on as scheduled.

“We’ve gotten positive feedback about having them both in the same location, close to each other,” said Erickson, referring to the location for the outdoor events west of the Canadian Tire. “That’s something we’re going to try and maintain going forward.”

Indoor events this year included the Country Show, Rock Show, Gospel Show, Voices of The North, the Trade Show and the arm wrestling competition held at the Alfred Jenkins Field House.

Now that the 59th Winter Festival has wrapped up, attention turns to next year and the 60th-anniversary celebration.

“We already have some ideas of things to do,” said Erickson. “Of course, everything is dependent on volunteers. Lots of great ideas, it’s just a matter of whether we get the manpower to do it.”

“(The) 60th is an anniversary year so we’ll have to think about planning something big,” Joseph added.

Joseph added the board will meet in the coming weeks to start preparations for next year’s festival.
