Not guilty pleas entered by woman accused of assaulting Prince Albert senior

Feb 27, 2023 | 12:00 PM

A woman accused of entering a Prince Albert senior’s complex without permission and assaulting one of the residents, is maintaining her innocence.

April Ross, who was 40 years old at the time of her arrest last month, was not present when her charges were discussed Monday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court.

Instead her lawyer entered not guilty pleas on her behalf to aggravated assault and uttering threats.

The trial date was also scheduled for May 24.

In the early evening hours of Jan. 2, it’s alleged Ross entered Northcote Manor and proceeded to go through the kitchen drawers. When an elderly resident questioned her about it, Ross then allegedly pulled out a knife and advanced toward the resident.

That’s when the victim Carl Klarenbach, who happens to be a retired correctional officer, got up from the chair he was sitting in to intervene, but was pushed backwards and suffered a serious head injury.

As of Monday, the 89-year-old remains in hospital.

Further adding to the family’s grief is Klarenbach’s wife Bev passed away on Friday. She suffered from some underlying health conditions but still visited her husband as often as possible.

“The one case worker said she wouldn’t be surprised if was “lonely heart syndrome “ seeing how they were going to celebrate their 70th anniversary this July,” Curtis Klarenback, the couple’s son, said.
