Bail granted for man charged after robbery at Muskoday

Feb 16, 2023 | 4:17 PM

One of two men charged after a robbery and standoff last month at Muskoday First Nation has been released from jail on conditions, including a 24-hour curfew.

Colton Lafond, 34, appeared by video for Thursday afternoon’s hearing at Prince Albert Provincial Court.

Both the evidence discussed and the judge’s reasons for releasing Lafond are protected by a publication ban.

In connection to the incident on Jan. 10, Lafond is facing a single charge of robbery.

According to a statement at the time from RCMP, at approximately 7:05 a.m., officers responded to Muskoday First Nation.

The investigation determined two men assaulted another man and stole a bottle of alcohol from him. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and the two suspects were left in a vehicle.

One of the men, Waylon Daniels, was arrested later that day following a standoff with police. He is scheduled back in court on Feb. 23.

And Lafond, who was arrested two weeks after the incident, has had his matters adjourned to March 9. This will allow him time to get a lawyer.

In addition to the curfew, Lafond is also prohibited from driving, cannot possess any form of weapon, cannot possess alcohol or drugs. He has also been enrolled in the electronic monitoring program.
