Travel agents busy after Christmas season debacle

Feb 11, 2023 | 9:40 AM

Travel agents have had a chance to rest since the Christmas season air travel debacle that saw flights cancelled across Canada.

Terry Kaszas, general manager of travel services for CAA Saskatchewan, said travel agents are still very busy.

“Things are progressing nicely for what’s available,” Kaszas said, explaining people are booking travel plans again and rebooking previously cancelled flights and trips.

Flights with Sunwing Vacations have also resumed out of Saskatoon.

“There’s not as many fights as there was, but there’s still flights going in and out,” Kaszas said. “Things are looking up.”

Kaszas said he’s anticipating agents will be extremely busy heading into the spring and fall seasons. Compared to where travellers were just a month ago, he said things are once again going smoothly with flights.

He advised some patience, however, as some agents are still working to get all the cancelled travel plans rebooked.

For anyone looking to leave the snow behind, Kaszas said agents can still put passengers on flights to Puerto Vallarta and Cancun.

Looking ahead to the spring and summer, Kaszas said interest in travel to Europe is starting to pick up as well.
