Raiders redeem themselves in home-and-home, down Broncos 4-1

Feb 11, 2023 | 10:52 PM

PRINCE ALBERT, SK – The Prince Albert Raiders got the split in the home-and-home on Saturday night by toppling the Swift Current Broncos 4-1 at the Art Hauser Centre.

The win snaps a three-game losing skid for PA and was also the club’s 20th win on the year.

After losing 4-0 last night, then winning tonight 4-1 against the Broncos, head coach Jeff Truitt said that he was satisfied with his teams performance.

“I think that (the leadership group) had a big influence on the game here tonight,” he said. “They didn’t like the way last night turned out obviously with the way that we played. Collectively, I think they kinda got their boot straps pulled up and went to battle tonight.”

Veteran forward Keaton Sorensen led the charge for PA, scoring a goal along with two assists. Niall Crocker and Ryder Ritchie weren’t too far behind him each potting a goal and an assist while Harrison Lodewyk was the other goal getter. Brayden Dube, Gabe Ludwig, Easton Kovacs, and Seth Tansem each had assists in the game for the Raiders.

Caleb Wyrostok had the Broncos only point in the game when he scored early in the first.

Max Hildebrand stopped 33 shots between the pipes for the win as PA improves to 20-28-3-0 on the campaign.

Reid Dyck had 17 stops in the loss where Swift Current falls to 24-22-1-2 on the year.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

An offensive turnover by the Raiders got the Broncos on the board just 34 seconds in where Wyrostok intercepted a breakout pass and fired it wide side on Hildebrand.

Fast forward to midway through the period and the Raiders finally tickled the twine after being shutout for nearly eight periods of hockey. A quick shot from Sorensen created a scramble for the puck in front where it then came out to Crocker who quickly spun around and fired a backhander towards the goal. His shot was blocked by a sprawling defender and the puck landed on the tape of Lodewyk, who put it home to tie it up at one.

Into the second now where less five minutes in and the Raiders have the lead. Ritchie carried the puck into the Swift Current zone before he toe-dragged past the defender and fired a shot on net. He followed up on his own rebound and stuffed it in to give PA the lead.

The Raiders added to the lead not too long after while on the powerplay where Crocker sniped his ninth of the year from the slot to double up the Broncos.

Less than a minute to play in the second and Prince Albert couldn’t stop scoring. Dube got the puck down low and lured the defenders out from in front before feeding Sorensen in tight who niftily tapped it home to give the Raiders a 4-1 lead going into the final period.

The score remained the same throughout the third as PA gets back in the win column with a 4-1 win.

The Raiders now gear up for their next matchup when they host Connor Bedard and the Regina Pats on Friday night. Puck drop is 7pm at the Art Hauser Centre.
