A local flower shop has donated more than 40 roses to Ukrainian women who were forced to flee their country due to the ongoing war.

Scentiments Floral donated 43 pink and purple roses to the newcomer women in three different communities, including Prince Albert, Shellbrook, and Birch Hills.

Owner of the store Stacy Coburn told paNOW the reason why she wanted to donate the flowers in the first place.

“I had the idea to help the Ukrainian newcomers through their first Valentine’s away from their homeland,” she said. “And from their partners, or husbands, or spouses to give them each a rose as a gift.”

She also explained the assortment of roses she gave to them, saying that the purple and pink roses are more fragrant and longer lasting than a normal rose.

Since entering the flower business in 1991, Coburn said she’s donated thousands of flowers to people and various events. However, this time is a new experience for her and her shop.

“It’s very unique,” she said. “We’ve done different things to help out in other circumstances, but this is certainly a unique experience.”

As of December 2022, over 35 families from Ukraine now call Prince Albert home.
