Spirit in sport: Sturgeon Lake players win banner in One Arrow

A new banner will be hanging in Sturgeon Lake School, after their U13 indoor soccer team won a recent tournament in One Arrow.

Assistant coach Dean Gerard said the win helps boost school spirit.

“They were jumping around high-fiving everybody, they were pretty happy,” he said of his team’s reaction to winning.

Gerard commented that the new facility in One Arrow was great to play in and interest in the game is strong.

The team lost its first game 1-0 before going on to win 2-1.

“It was a pretty exciting game. I was sitting on the sidelines, screaming around,” Gerard said.

Playing sports and going on team trips is beneficial for the students, he added.

“It brings up the morale. Any time you can take the students out to play any kind of sports is good,” he said.

They also travel to play the teams in the Prince Albert leagues as much as possible and go to other reserves as well.
