COME BACK ALIVE

With family back home, P.A. woman works hard to support Ukraine

Feb 8, 2023 | 2:27 PM

With her family, thousands of kilometres away, one Prince Albert resident is trying to do everything she can to give back to those in her home nation of Ukraine.

Ludya Zarichna is doing this with the help of other supporters in organizing another Ukrainian Fundraising Supper on Feb. 24.

St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Church is once again hosting the dinner with all funds going to Come Back Alive, to provide protective equipment to those serving in Ukraine.

“We want to help our Ukrainian forces and support them,” said Zarichna.

The date of this coming fundraiser is significant as it will be the one-year mark since Russian forces invaded Ukraine.

For Zarichna, she’s not only thinking of the Ukrainian soldiers, but also her own family who still lives in the country.

“Right now, it’s a hard time,” she said. “They only have power for two hours a day. It’s hard to get a hold of them and talk to them because even if the power works, I always lose connection.”

“They keep trying to hold and hang in there.”

The fundraising dinner is for dine-in or take-out and runs from 4:30 to 10 p.m. on the 24th. Tickets are still available, but Zarichna is hoping more people give their time to help.

“We would like to have some volunteers for sure,” Anyone that would like to perform, to showcase their talents.”

A silent auction will also be taking place during the supper.

Those willing to help can contact Ludya at 306-930-7985 or Mariya Firman at 306-961-4885.
