Saskatchewan High School Basketball ‘Hoopla’ Championships 2023

Feb 6, 2023 | 2:14 PM

The North Central District Athletic Association (NCDAA) is proud to welcome the best high school basketball teams in the province to Prince Albert on March 23-25.

We respectfully acknowledge that this event will take place on Treaty 6 territory, the traditional homeland of the Metis and all Indigenous Peoples of Saskatchewan.

It is the Saskatchewan High School Athletics Associations 75th anniversary and we are ready to celebrate with the province. This will also mark the return of the Hoopla provincial basketball tournament to its more natural format for the first time since 2019.

The high school basketball playoffs began with over 275 teams vying for a spot at the Hoopla Tournament. Of those teams, 48 will qualify for the event here in Prince Albert: 24 boys and 24 girls teams will be competing for a chance to be crowned provincial champions in 10 different categories. Teams will have started their journey in November, traveling the province for competition and learning life lessons along the way. It is through the commitment of endless volunteer hours that these students get to learn and grow through sport in education.

There will be 48 teams from across the province participating in Hoopla. (Submitted photo/NCDAA)

NCDAA is proudly hosting this event at three venues throughout the city: Carlton Comprehensive High School, Ecole St. Mary High School, and Saskatchewan Polytechnic. Games will begin at all locations on Thursday evening with 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. tipoffs and resume on Friday morning at 11 a.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m. Games will run all day with 6 match ups at each venue on both Friday and Saturday. Passes can be purchased at the door for $20/weekend, $8 adult/day, and $6 student/day.

The support of the city, local businesses, and school volunteers have all made this event possible. We are excited to be able to host everyone in our outstanding facilities and encourage all residents of Prince Albert and area to take in the action. Prince Albert has a proud history of basketball and developing young athletes. Come be a part of promoting these experiences for the youth in our area, and let’s do what we can to keep them involved in educational sport.

As with any sporting event, this would not be possible without the involvement of dedicated and professional officials. We thank you for your time and commitment to the sport and to the youth of our province in helping us build a culture of sportsmanship and respect.
