Second person arrested after standoff at Muskoday First Nation

Jan 25, 2023 | 3:56 PM

Saskatchewan RCMP have made another arrest in connection to a standoff earlier this month at Muskoday First Nation.

Colten Lafond, 34, is facing a single charge of robbery. He appeared Wednesday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court and was remanded to Thursday.

On Jan. 10, at approximately 7:05 a.m., there was a report of a robbery at the first nation south of Prince Albert.

Officers from both the Prince Albert RCMP and Prince Albert Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan immediately responded.

The investigation determined two men assaulted another man and stole a bottle of alcohol from him. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and the two suspects left in a vehicle.

The vehicle was later located parked outside a residence in the community. When officers approached the residence, a man fled from it on foot. Police believed he was potentially armed with firearms.

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Police Dog Services and Critical Incident Response Team were called to assist with the search for the suspect. The police dog tracked him to a residence and officers set up a perimeter around it to help maintain public safety.

Waylon Daniels from Melfort was soon after arrested and charged with one count of robbery. He was also arrested on warrants for assault, failing to attend court, and driving while prohibited.

Daniels is scheduled to make his next court appearance appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Thursday.
