Tobin Lake ranked number two for best ice fishing destinations

Did you know that the second-best ice fishing destination in all of Canada is in northeast Saskatchewan?

That is according to the website FishingBooker.com which released its top nine ice fishing destinations and Tobin Lake came in at number two.

The number one destination is Lake Nipissing in Ontario.

So how does the Resort Village of Tobin feel about this honour?

“It makes sense,” said Mayor Amy Shipley who said she first got word of the list through a social media post.

“I was surprised and thrilled to see that but totally believable because we have such awesome fishing here.”

The website said the lake is known not only for its winter fishing frenzy but also for its record-breaking walleye and being one of the best ice-fishing spots for monster walleye and lake trout.

“The majority of locals would always point to the lake when asked where the trophies hide,” FishingBooker said in its release. “It’s not just about walleye and trout; perch, whitefish, burbot, and pike are also on the winter menu.”

Shipley said the timing of the release is perfect given its upcoming Drill Your Own Hole fishing tournament on the Saturday before Family Day.

“It’s great publicity to have that recognized,” Shipley added. “It’s great for the village and great for Tobin Lake.”
