Drug & Firearm Seizure

P.A. woman charged after drug and firearms seized in Mistawasis

Jan 4, 2023 | 8:00 AM

What started out as a report of possible gunshots on Mistawasis First Nation turned into a large firearm and drug seizure for RCMP.

On Jan. 1, around 1:50 p.m., Ahtahkakoop RCMP drove up to an abandoned home on the First Nation after receiving the report of possible gunshots.

As they pulled into the driveway, three people were seen entering a black truck and attempted to flee. However, the vehicle quickly got stuck in the snow with all three running on foot.

Police were able to catch 30-year-old Faith Girourard from Prince Albert, though the other two people, believed to both be men, escaped.

While searching Girourard’s purse, officers found around 293 grams of suspected methamphetamine, a large sum of cash, and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking activity.

Officers went back to the abandoned home and ended up setting up a containment area after noticing that several other people were inside. In total, there were seven and each was arrested for break and enter.

A search of three vehicles on the property took place with officers finding six firearms, one of which was a sawed-off shotgun, two cans of mace, more cash, and a cell phone.

As a result, Girourard was arrested and handed 30 firearms-related charges along with possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine.

She’s scheduled to appear in court in Prince Albert on Jan. 4.

Meanwhile, RCMP continues to investigate and are working to find the two men who fled on foot.
