Homicide victim purchased Margo duplex days before death

Nice is the first word that the friends and family of Sharon Littlewolfe use to describe her. She was also a mother of three, a powwow dancer, and did her best to live an honest life.

Littlewolfe, age 51, died Christmas Eve and her common-law spouse, Brian McLeod, is accused of killing her and assaulting her daughter and four-month-old grandchild in a series of attacks.

“He wanted to kill everybody,” said Ivy Houle, Littlewolfe’s foster sister.

The daughter is facing surgeries and faked being dead to save her own life, Houle explained, and the baby was cut in the attack.

“She lived a good, honest life. She danced powwow, she believed in our First Nation’s traditions, culture. She was a good mom,” Houle said of Littlewolfe.

She graduated high school, worked in jobs such as the band office (Littlewolfe was a member of the Onion Lake Cree Nation), and did her best as a single parent to three children.

McLeod and Littlewolfe had only been dating for about nine months and had just recently moved to Margo, a community of about 90 people southeast of Wadena and well over 500 km away from Lloydminster where she had been living. McLeod has family in the area.

“He got her to move over there. Sharon had received some money from the day school fund. I believe he got her to buy a duplex,” Houle said.

Ownership records show Littlewolfe as the registered owner of a residential property in Margo.

The couple lived in one-half of the duplex and Littlewolfe’s daughter moved into the other half with her infant son.

The couple’s relationship seems to have been volatile and Houle said to her recollection, a restraining order against McLeod was issued in October following an incident in Olds, Alta, when Littlewolfe’s head was banged against a tree repeatedly.

Littlewolfe bought the duplex and moved in at the beginning of December, living in it for less than a month before she died.

“She was the baby of the family, the youngest one. She loved my children, her nieces and nephews. I think that’s why she came and stayed with us,” said Houle.

When Houle moved to Saskatoon years ago, Littlewolfe came too.

“She wanted a good life for herself. She always wanted a better life,” Houle explained.

McLeod, age 56, appears next in Melfort Provincial Court on January 3 on charges of second-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault and possession of property obtained by crime.

He was apprehended by police following a third attack near Tisdale after a man approached a home asking for help with a stuck vehicle (allegedly taken from a home in Margo). The man who lived in the Tisdale home was taken to hospital with injuries that were serious but not life-threatening.
