Prince Albert asked to give the gift of a youth mentor

Dec 22, 2022 | 3:35 PM

A holiday campaign benefitting youth in the Prince Albert area is close to wrapping up..

Lake Country Co-op has been collecting donations at its seven locations across Prince Albert for the Big Brothers Big Sisters holiday campaign Ignite A Little Sparkle.

The campaign raises money for youth mentoring programs.

“We are excited to have Lake Country Co-op as a partner in this year’s holiday campaign” Big Brothers Big Sisters of Prince Albert’s development coordinator Natasha Thomson said in a statement. “100 per cent of the money raised will go towards recruiting, screening, and training new volunteers to match with children on our waiting list”.

Thomson explained some of the children have been waiting since last year to be matched.

“A year is a long time for a child, so we are asking the good people of Prince Albert to support our programs by signing up to volunteer or by making a donation which allows us to continue making and supporting new matches,” she said.

Thomson added each match will meet about once a week for a minimum of one year to build a developmental relationship that helps the young person develop confidence, social skills and empowerment.

The Ignite A Little Sparkle campaign will continue until Dec. 31.

Big Brothers Big Sisters has been facilitating developmental mentoring relationships in Prince Albert since 1971 and is a satellite office of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Saskatoon & Area.
