Dec 16, 2022 | 10:00 AM

Sturgeon Lake’s Caleb Ermine will be climbing back into the cage this weekend.

The 34-year-old is fighting Matt Klute at the Unified Mixed Martial Arts event in Edmonton.

“I feel good and ready. I’ve put the work in,” he said, when interviewed by paNOW on Thursday.

Ermine, who trains out of North Wake Martials Arts in Prince Albert, currently has a professional fight record of 0-2 and last fought in May.

He lost out to Tyrell Giselbrecht at Unified MMA 45, tapping out to an armbar in the dying seconds of the first round. Ermine explained that about a week and a half before the fight, he had popped his rib out,

“I didn’t want to tell them about the injury because I wasn’t sure if I’d be given another chance,” he explained, adding he wasn’t able to take a full deep breath until four days before the fight

Ermine’s opponent this weekend, 31-year-old Matt Klute, has a professional fight record of 1-and-1 but hasn’t fought in over three years.

‘He seems like he likes to dog fight so I’m hoping he gives me the dog fight I’ve been looking for,’ Ermine said.

Ermine”s coach and instructor Lucian Phillips said Caleb has been consistently working on every aspect of the game including striking, wrestling, and Jiu-jitsu.

“The biggest thing Caleb has improved on is his mental preparation. So, hopefully everything goes well this weekend,” he said

The event Saturday night takes place at the River Cree Resort and Casino and will be live-streamed through UFC Fight Pass.
