Raiders raise over two tons of food for PA Food Bank

The Prince Albert Raiders made a pretty heavy donation on Thursday morning, donating over 2,000 lbs of food to the Prince Albert Food Bank.

All the food that was donated came from the Raiders food drive they collected during Wednesday’s game, which saw up to 2,300 people in the stands.

Executive director of the Prince Albert Food Bank Kim Scruby said that a big donation like this goes a long way, especially during the holidays.

“Especially at this time of year just given the economic circumstances here in PA and all over North America, we’ve actually seen a big increase in multiple employed households,” he said. “So it is getting busier as Christmas approaches and it was all the right stuff that was donated.”

The PA food bank had another big donation earlier in the month when nurses and doctors at Victoria Hospital held a food drive that saw 1,005 lbs of food get donated. Scruby added that the food bank will see a lot more food donations come in as the holidays near.

“I know there’s a lot of food drive going on right now on our behalf,” he said. “December usually sees a decent stream of food coming in and this community really steps up to help others out.”

As for the Raiders, the Green and Gold are back in action on Friday night when they host their annual ‘Teddy Bear & Toque Toss’ night against the Regina Pats.
