Prince Albert woman delivers a $1,000 worth of smiles

Prince Albert’s Bernadette Lavoie doesn’t have a sleigh, a red suit, or even any reindeer, but her recent gesture would make Saint Nick proud.

On Thursday, the owner of North Country Medi-Spa purchased $1,000 dollars worth of cookies from Tim Horton’s and delivered them in person to various agencies, schools, and businesses across the city.

“It was amazing and what was very touching was to see the look on other local peoples’ faces when I was bringing these cookies, just for no specific reason,” she said.

Lavoie noted generally around this time of year, how she likes to give a local donation and realized buying the cookies was a win-win as 100 per cent of proceeds from the cookie sales go to support local charities. Accompanied by a friend, it took Lavoie roughly three hours to make the deliveries.

“Everyone was thrilled and everyone was cheering Merry Christmas,” she said. “It was like giving an edible Christmas card.”

Among the stops were the police station, hospital, and fire hall. Lyle Karasiuk with Parkland Ambulance was grateful for Lavoie’s donation.

“We appreciate her generosity and thank her for taking time to recognize the hard work our paramedics and telecommunications team members do each and every day,” he said.

In January, Lavoie plans to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain and the highest single free-standing mountain above sea level in the world.

Leading up to the event, she plans to raise $19,371 for Hope’s Home – a dollar for every foot of the mountain. As of Thursday, she had raised over $10,000.
