Much of Saskatchewan under extreme cold warning

Extreme cold warnings blanketed areas across Saskatchewan on Tuesday morning.

Regions from Leader in the southwest to Wollaston Lake in the northeast were included in the warnings. Saskatoon also was under the advisory.

Environment Canada said wind chills between -40 C and -45 C were expected.

“Extreme wind chill values that are occurring will moderate later in the morning,” the advisory said. “(On) Tuesday evening, the extreme wind chill values are expected to return, and warnings will likely need to be expanded.

“Conditions will improve Wednesday as warmer air begins to move into the region.”

Environment Canada’s forecast for Regina said the wind chill would be -52 C overnight.

According to the Highway Hotline, seasonal driving conditions existed across most of the province Tuesday.

As of 10:30 a.m., the Hotline said there was poor visibility on the Trans-Canada Highway around Morse, on Highway 19 south of that community and on Highway 363 east and west of Hodgeville, but there weren’t any areas where travel wasn’t recommended.
