Ex-Raider Allan among 29 players invited to Canada’s selection camp
The roster that will try to lead Canada to a second straight gold medal at the World Junior Championship is beginning to take shape. The eventual tournament roster has a chance to have a Prince Albert Raiders connection on it as well.
Team Canada announced their selection camp roster this afternoon, and former Raiders captain Nolan Allan has earned the right to compete for a spot on the final team. Allan is one of 29 players selected to the camp roster.
Allan, a 2003-born defenceman, spent parts of five seasons with the Raiders and played in 162 contests with the club. He was named the team’s captain upon his return from the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks. The Raiders traded Allan to Seattle in a blockbuster deal on November 16 that saw three players and six picks come back the other way.
In his first two seasons with the Raiders, Allan was a defensive stalwart who played physically and was always willing to block a shot. In his third season, his offence began to take off as he set career highs in every category. He had 11 points in 16 games played with the Raiders prior to the trade.
