Bears defeat Gold Wings, Hounds in back-to-back games on the road

WEYBURN/WILCOX, SK – The Prince Albert Northern Bears went two-for-two this past weekend defeating the Weyburn Richardson Pioneer Gold Wings on Saturday, then winning a shootout thriller on Sunday against the Notre Dame Hounds.

The weekend got started at Crescent Point Place in Weyburn where the Bears took down the Gold Wings 3-1.

The Wings managed to score early in the first when Sydney Dauvin found twine just five minutes in. Then with 23 seconds to go, Tristyn Endicott connected with Claudia Lammers to tie it up going into the second period.

The score would remain the same until the third when Jasmine Kohl put the Bears in front midway through. Julia Cey added an empty netter with 14 seconds left on the clock to seal the deal for PA, giving them their first win of the weekend.

For their second win, it was a bit more exciting.

The Hounds got the party started just 14 seconds in when Spring Mosset broke into the Bears’ end and scored her fifth of the season. The lead didn’t last long though when Taelyr Ballard scored her first in the league to pull the Bears back to even.

PA would take the lead in the second period when Kelsey Ledoux scored on the powerplay. The lead lasted until midway through the third with Maisie Kozak scoring to tie it back up. The game needed extras to decide a winner where neither team could score in overtime, so to a shootout it went.

Kyra Anderson was the first shooter for the Hounds where she scored. PA missed on their first shot but converted on the second thanks to a game-saving goal from Julia Cey. Neither team could find a way to score through rounds three and four until the Bears found a hole in round five. Ledoux scored to put PA up 2-1 in the shootout, which meant the Hounds’ life in the game rested on the stick of their fifth shooter, Felica An. Bears’ netminder Brooke Archer was ready however and denied her of scoring to win it 3-2 for PA.

Archer starred in both games for the Bears this weekend, where she totaled 50 saves to help Prince Albert improve to 4-12-1-0 on the campaign.

The black and orange have a couple weeks of rest before their next contest when they host the Swift Current Innovation Credit Union Wildcats on Dec. 17 and 18 at the Art Hauser Centre.
