Prince Albert and northeast region to shine bright at Telemiracle 47

The Saskatchewan Talent lineup performing during TeleMiracle 47 has been announced and includes a number of names from Prince Albert and the northeast region.

From Prince Albert, Paul Lomheim will be a part of the main broadcast.

“I am proud to be selected and being a part of the 2023 Kinsmen TeleMiracle. An event that helps people & organizations of Saskatchewan with medical needs or medical equipment,” he said.

The last time Lomheim performed individually on the Telemiracle stage was around 40 years ago, but in more recent years did play bass for Deborah Lauren (national cast member).

A number of dance clubs from the area also made the cut including Performing Arts Warehouse and the Birch Hills Dance Centre. Avery Gelhorn, 17, will be among the dancers on stage with the Prince Albert club.

“I think as a dancer, you have this love of dance and it’s something so powerful and so beautiful and it’s just such a blessing to be able to share that with people,” she said, adding when it’s for a cause like Telemiracle, it enhances that feeling even more.

Performing Arts Warehouse also performed at Telemiracle last year, and Gelhorn explained they already have a special routine picked out. It’s the one they performed during competition last year and received high marks from the judges.

“This year our group really thrived because we found we really bonded as a team in a way we’ve never bonded before and that piece really highlighted our friendships and our community so we thought that would be the best one to take to Telemiracle,” Gelhorn said.

Telemiracle is a wonderful part of Saskatchewan’s identity.

“Our group may not be able to raise thousands and thousands of dollars in our small town, but we do see the value in sharing our gift of dance, and we hope that it will inspire and entertain others,” she said.

In the lead up to Telemiracle, all the acts involved do their own fundraising. Last year, the Birch Hills Dance Centre held two workshops (one in August and one in February) where all registration fees went to Telemiracle.

They also did a bottle drive and took in donations from friends, family, and the studio. In total, they were able to raise $1000.

“Like us, Telemiracle is proud to represent and showcase our hometown province of Saskatchewan. It was for this reason that we chose the song “Hometown Glory” by Adele as our piece of music,” Wotherspoon said.

Other acts from the northeast region include Dale Von Bieker (Nipawin), For the Love of Country (Arborfield), and Shelby Murphy (Melfort)

In total,115 acts auditioned this year.

TeleMiracle 47 runs Feb. 25-26, 2023, from Saskatoon. Since 1977, the event has raised over $153 million for the Kinsmen Foundation, which provides funding to people requiring special needs equipment to maintain or improve their quality of life; as well as travel assistance to those needing to leave their community, to access life-saving medical treatment.

Funding is also provided to institutions and health foundations to purchase specialized, new or innovating equipment to improve health care.

Nutrien has announced they will be matching donations made to TeleMiracle through the Sask. Talent performers, up to $100,000. The online 50/50 raffle is also running now.
