Victoria Hospital donates over half a ton of food to P.A. Food Bank

What started as a friendly competition turned into more than 1,000 pounds of food being donated to the Prince Albert Food Bank.

Representatives from the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert were at the food bank earlier today where they dropped off a shipment of 1,005 pounds of food they have raised over the past two weeks.

Doctors and nurses at the hospital have been donating food since Nov. 14 where the organizer of the donation Stacy Poitras said it all started while she was at work one day.

“I had this idea one day that we should collect food donations for the food bank and I was just thinking for my specific floor (at the hospital),” she said. “After that, I got the idea that it should be a friendly competition between the other floors to see who collect the most food donations by weight.”

The surgical and medical floors were competing for prizes and bragging rights where the surgical floor ended up edging the medical floor.

Poitras added she’s proud of her coworkers for all the food they donated and hopes to donate even more next year.

“I definitely had high hopes between the three floors and I’m definitely proud of the donations we were able to collect,” she said. “Hopefully next year we get more departments involved and It’ll be an even bigger collection to donate.”

The food drive got underway back on Nov. 14 and ran until this morning.
