P.A. lucks out from snowstorm hitting communities across province

It’s safe to say Prince Albert lucked out weather-wise.

While snow is forecasted for most of Monday, the city will miss the worst of the Alberta clipper moving through the province.

“Most of the snow should have already fallen (Monday) morning and then it will slowly taper off into light snow,” Terri Lang, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, said.

Other communities like North Battleford, Melfort, and Saskatoon aren’t as lucky. A winter storm warning has been issued for North Battleford, while Melfort and Saskatoon are each under snowfall warnings.

Lang explained the biggest problem for P.A. will be the windy conditions. The wind is expected to hit between 30 and 40 km/h, gusting up to 50 km/h.

“We know it doesn’t take that much to blow around this light, fluffy snow,” Lang said. “In exposed areas, there’s going to be a lot of blowing and drifting snow.”

This will cause poor driving conditions, especially outside of the city.

Lang added the recent warm weather the city experienced, combined with the colder temperatures coming up will create icy conditions. She reminds drivers to to check the Highway Hotline before travelling.
