Balmy November weekend before freezing temperatures hit next week: Environment Canada

Nov 25, 2022 | 9:45 AM

Environment Canada is predicting a gorgeous November weekend with temperatures that won’t dip into the negative range.

Dan Fulton, meteorologist with Environment Canada, said a southwest flow will cover most of the southern half of Saskatchewan on Friday, leaving that part of the province with highs in at least the mid-single digits and getting warmer heading further towards the southwest.

Lots of high clouds will leave the day with some sun and some cover, as well as a bit of a breeze with wind from the southwest.

“A pretty nice day, actually, for late November,” Fulton commented.

Temperatures on Friday will be the highest of the weekend, dipping just a bit to hover around zero for the rest of the weekend.

“That’s still above normal,” Fulton said, noting the average high for this time of year is around -5 C.

A bit of a weather system coming through on Monday will start to turn the weather, though, bringing some snow. Fulton said the amount isn’t certain, though he isn’t currently predicting significant snowfall.

He recommended paying close attention to the forecast in case that changes, but after that snow, colder Arctic air will once again sweep the prairies, dipping from a high of -6 on Monday into the -20 C range around mid-week.

“(That) is a pretty big change from today, so that’s going to feel pretty cold,” Fulton said with a laugh.

The big jump in temperature is “kind of the way it is on the prairies,” he added.

Fulton said the mild air coming from the southwest on Friday is air that originated across the Pacific Ocean.

“It’s temporarily winning the battle against the super cold Arctic air,” he explained.
