Guilty plea entered in fatal hit-and-run case on MLCN

Nov 14, 2022 | 2:00 PM

More than 11 years after a man was struck and killed by a vehicle on the Montreal Lake Cree Nation (MLCN), a guilty plea has been entered in the case.

Jody Roberts, 34, was arrested in March of 2021 and charged with one count of failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

The guilty plea was entered when her matters were most recently addressed on Nov. 3.

John Moses Bird, 49, was struck and killed on April 3, 2011, which also happened to be his birthday.

At the time of his death in the early morning hours, Bird was walking on the highway that runs through the northern reserve.

When Bird’s body was discovered, several items of black plastic were found around him. At the time, investigators believed they may have come from the front bumper of the vehicle.

The sentencing date has been scheduled for Feb. 2nd at MLCN.
