A day after Saskatoon police said the remains of Megan Gallagher had been identified, her family is still processing the information.

Megan’s father, Brian Gallagher, said Wednesday the family is still preparing and discussing how to speak about the discovery of his daughter’s remains two years after her disappearance.

The remains were found near St. Louis in late September during a four-day search around the South Saskatchewan River area. The remains now identified as those of Megan Gallagher were located on the first day of the search.

Police shared the news via a media release on Tuesday. It also confirmed Gallagher had been murdered.

The Gallagher family told 650 CKOM they would be available to comment on Monday.

Brian Gallagher has said in the past that there may never be full closure, but he and his wife, Debbie, hope to see the truth of what happened to Megan revealed through the court process.

The couple has been devoted attendees of most of the appearances of the nine people facing charges in relation to Megan’s death and disappearance.

“It’s the way we resolve these things,” Brian said to the media after a recent court appearance by one of the suspects. “Keeping the silence isn’t doing anybody good. Breaking the silence works.”

He said the hardest thing has been not knowing where his daughter was.

“I’m going to carry Megan in my heart for the rest of my life,” he said.
